In Connectedness

connectedness as a way to being heartful

Connectedness, it goes without saying that as people we are social creatures. We may think that we are happy enough in our own company, and from time to time we are. But the truth is that we actively seek to be connected with those around us.

In fact, it is these healthy, personal connections that help us to feel safer and can also help to improve both our physical and our mental health. It doesn’t matter how we are connect, this could be with our family, friends, partners and co-workers, or it could even be with our friends.

Want to know more about connectedness? Here are some of the reasons why being connected is so vitally important to us all.

Connectedness And Mental Health

If you are someone who finds that they struggle with anxiety or depression, then chances are that you will already know that it is tempting to hide away from the world and keep yourself to yourself. However, one of the best things that you can do for yourself is to try your best to get out there and be connected with those around you. Being alone will make it harder to cope with how you feel and it can also make your recovery time longer.

You can use it as a chance to get outside

There are a variety of people who you can connect with, as well as ways that you can connect with them. You can organise to meet up out of the house, perhaps in a local park, which will not only help you on the level that you have connected with someone, but it will also mean that you are getting some fresh air too. Both of which can have a hugely positive impact on your mental health.

Build New Relationships

Not only can connectedness help us to cement the bonds that we already have with friends and family. But it can also help us to forge new bonds too. Whilst your main focus should never be on making as many friends as possible (as this can be unrealistic, not to mention exhausting) you should be aware that being connected with the world can help you to forge new relationships and new bonds.

I suspect that the most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention. And especially if it’s given from the heart.

It doesn’t always have to be in person

We hear a lot in the press about the negative impact that social media can have on our lives and there is of course proof of this, but it goes without saying that social media can also be hugely positive in its nature too. It allows you to connect to those people who you cannot see physically, in person. This really helps when you are feeling lonely and you just need to have someone to talk to, but you cannot get out of the house to meet up with people.

There is no shame taking refuge in your own mind from time to time when you need to and it is great if you find happiness in your own company. However, you should, when you can, seek out connections and make sure that you work on them, for that is the way to stay truly happy.
