In Stillness

What Is Stillness?

finding stillness peace and silence

How much of your time is spent running around and not really focus on what is going on around you? Chances are, most of it is. Our lives are busy, and this means that you have a lot of noise both inside and outside your brain. This noise can be both deafening and overwhelming, which may be fine in the short-term, but over time this is going to cause some problems.

The thing to focus on when this happens is stillness. Now, we know that the idea of being still can be incredibly hard to do when you are rushing around, but we can promise you that if you do, then you are going to feel the benefit.

So, why is stillness such a good thing to do and how do you do it?

Why is stillness important?

There are a variety of reasons why you should be practising stillness as much as you can. One of the main reasons is that it can help you to feel calm, serene and happy. It will remind you to stop and take stock of what is around you and how it can help you to be positive.

Another great thing about stillness is that it can help you to feel more energetic and that you can take on the world around you. This boost in energy and happiness will have a ripple effect throughout your entire being and sense of purpose. It can even help you to feel that your health has improved too.

Everything inside and around us wants to reflect itself in us. We don’t have to go anywhere to obtain the truth. We only need to be still and things will reveal themselves in the still water of our heart.

How to practise stillness

Stillness isn’t the easiest of things to do; although the idea of is simple. However, just like anything in life, stillness is something that you can learn how to do.

The simplest thing to do is to find your most favourite spot, this can be at home, or perhaps out in the big wide world and then you just sit. You listen to soft music you breathe, and you just focus on where you are right then and there. Meditation is an idea example of practicing stillness, but before jumping headfirst, try these small exercises.

Once you have this set out. Then you can start to think about how you can make sure that it is something that you do on a regular basis. You should practise stillness whenever you feel that you need it. Even better, you could try and plan in time to be still. This might not feel like the most spontaneous idea, but we can assure you that if you make time for stillness, then stillness will start to be something that you do whenever you need it.

Want to learn more about stillness and how it can be something that you have as a part of your life? The best way to get to understand stillness is to just do it. Practise feeling still and then you will find that it is the easiest thing in the world to do.

Empty yourself of everything.
Let the mind rest at peace.
The ten thousand things rise and fall
while the Self watches their return.
They grow and flourish
and then return to the source.
Returning to the source is stillness,
which is the way of nature.
